The Rotary Club of Maringá, Brazil in working with Rotary District 4630 in Brazil have partnered with the Rotary Club of Jonesboro, Arkansas, USA and Rotary District 6150 in Arkansas, USA and The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International to computerize and network five (5) public libraries in Maringá, Parana, Brazil.
Project Description
This project will benefit all young people students, university students and all users of Maringá Public Libraries. Maringá has about 300,000 + people and 5 Public Libraries, which annually amounts to approximately 1,343,420 consultations and researches, with an annual frequency of 353,213 users. All these users will be greatly benefited with Internet access and computerized network. These five Libraries hold a total of 100,000 + volumes.
Maringá Libraries already have all the necessary infra-structure in place with 23 Librarians and 49 student workers. A network of interconnected computers will greatly increase the efficiency of this work force, and improve access to any part of the system for all users. In this way the large number of users will be benefited.
Many Rotarians are already users of the library system. Maringá Rotary Club has, for eighteen years, awarded and annual prize for the best readers, in four categories: 1. Young children, 2. Juveniles, 3. adult and 4. best essay. These prizes are presented during a Rotary meeting to coincide with the celebration of the anniversary of the foundation of Rotary International.
The international partner is necessary for the Matching Grant, as a contributor of valuable funds and with all the users of these five libraries including Rotarians. |
