Received from Jonathan Annis on October 23, 2007.
Hi Sam,
Please see the BBC news bulletin in the link below about other exciting things happening in Madagascar.
I have just returned from two of our health clinics where the Rotary work has been completed. Not only were the mothers and children receiving their vaccines, vitamin A, de-worming tablets, and bed nets, but thanks to Rotary they were drinking clean water as well! Your club's significant contribution to improving health services in rural madagascar cannot be over-stated.
Please know that your efforts are within a larger strategic framework of poverty eradication through the improvement of mother and child health being implemented by the US government and other International donors. Because of the generosity of people like yourselves, we are winning this war, one clinic at a time...

On Sept 17, 2007, we received the following email from Jonathan Annis.
Dear Rotarians,
We are now into our second week of construction at the first health clinic, Nahasandratrony, and I am pleased to report that the work is progressing as planned. The construction team has completed the incinerator and are nearly finished with the rainwater collection tank and gutter system. The expected duration of construction is 12 days per site. As is to be expected, however, the first few sites will be a bit slower as the team gets accustomed to the daily routine of alternating between the two structures. I suspect work at the fist clinic to be completed in 15 days (by the end of this week).
To generate local awareness for the project, a flag of the Rotary insignia is being made and will be flown at all the remaining sites. The Fianarantsoa Rotarians are also preparing personalized plaques
with the names of all the donors for each of the 20 clinics. The Rotarians have decided to hire a part-time (5 days a month) accountant to work with the construction team to keep the finances in order, including detailed financial reports after each site. The team's forman and I attend the weekly Rotary meetings to give progress reports to the club. Representatives of the Fianarantsoa club will visit to the Nahasandratrony site for final inspection before the formal inauguration in late September. |
