A message from Jack Deacon's Family to the Rotary Club of Jonesboro |
| |
To: The Rotary Family
From: The Deacon Family
I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to ALL of the Rotarians that visited, consoled and prayed for my father and our family since his peaceful passing early Friday morning and his burial yesterday. Even though this event that we knew had been coming is still very raw to me, I wanted to come today to address his “extended” family of Rotary and say “THANK YOU” from the bottom of our hearts.
If it weren’t for Paul Harris’ vision many years ago, Jack Deacon MIGHT have been the founding father of Rotary. He lived the true definition of Rotary in everything he touched, and it was because he was genuinely concerned for the well-being of his fellow man – EVERY man, not just the lawyers and the judges, but the everyday man.
Rotary meant so much to dad that this is difficult to put into words. But I DO know that the sadness in my heart today is also accompanied by Joy…..joy that this special Rotarian, attorney, humanitarian, and father gave us ALL a gift. This gift is to carry on with this important work, this effort to make our community and our world a better place. Yes, there IS a hole in my heart, and a hole that’s been left in our club and our community…..but we can use Jack Deacon’s gift to quickly fill it again and fulfill the beautiful legacy that he’s left behind.
So from the Deacon family, I thank you SO MUCH for being a huge and important part in my father’s life, and hope that his spirit will live on in this club through each of us and the “service above self” that we will undertake for years to come.
John C. Deacon |
