Rotarians Help Area Residents Protect Themselves |
| |
402 homes either have new smoke detectors, new batteries in a working detector they already owned or had their detector properly installed thanks to the Safe Jonesboro Coalition, Jonesboro Fire Department and Jonesboro Rotary Club joint project labeled “Get Alarmed” last Saturday, Oct. 14. A new perspective…
Jonesboro Rotary Club member, Tim Meyers shared his thoughts about helping with the Safe Jonesboro Coalition smoke detector project.
“Volunteers worked in north Jonesboro in the area around Parker Park. I had no idea that this section of Jonesboro was so economically depressed. We had the opportunity to meet a wide cross section of people, from the very young to the very old. People living alone and people living together in small homes. In general, most people were very receptive to us coming into their homes unannounced, on a Saturday morning. Most were appreciative of someone showing concern for their well being, by checking old detectors, installing new batteries and installing new detectors where before, there were none. I’m glad I took several hours of my time to do a good turn for someone else. It gave me a chance to reflect on the many blessings I have and reminded me there are many less fortunate than I.” |
